Welcome…
A huge welcome from all of us at Hawthorn Independent Special School. Here at Hawthorn we offer a bespoke service to young people who are experiencing trauma and mental health difficulties.
Young people who come to us usually can’t or don’t attend mainstream schools because of the nature of their mental health problems has left them unable to engage with normal day to day activities. These young people often can’t cope with large environments, noise or strange people. They are unable to engage in mainstream education or even with family at times and become disassociated, anxious, aggressive or distressed very quickly.
Find Out More About What We Do:
Our Mission
We aim to provide young people with the oppertunity to re-engage with education, society and find inspiration for life!
Our Values
At Hawthorn we give young people a voice and allow them to be heard. We support and help them with strategies to overcome the mental health issues that have hindered their personal and educational development.
Our cohort will have missed a significant amount of core education and are unable to catch up or re-join mainstream school.
We concentrate on developing a healthy mind, building resilience and finding strategies that work for the individual.
We aim to ignite a thirst for education once the mind is calm enough to learn.
A message from the Chair…
“All young people deserve the right to an education regardless of the challenges that they face.
We aim to teach our young people the skills that will prepare them for life, and an education tailored to their needs, so that employment and a positive place in society becomes part of their onward journey.”
“I can’t speak highly enough about Chalkhill farm. Julie and her team are incredibly kind, and experienced with supporting young people. They work so hard to care for the children that attend (and their animals.) Being outside in the fresh air with staff that show respect, patience and genuine affection for their attendees leads to a huge improvement in feelings of well being and self esteem. We are so pleased we found this amazing place.“
